ABOUT GUILD KALAMAZOO
GUILD is a free community art studio built around the belief that being creative is a human experience and one that can be fostered in a pressure-free environment through respect, kindness, and curiosity. Founded in November 2025, GUILD is entirely volunteer-run.
OUR MISSION
To provide accessible space and art supplies for people in Kalamazoo to explore creativity, share skills, and build community through collective donation of time and materials while keeping items out of the landfill.
OUR VISION
A Kalamazoo where people can explore creative expression in a pressure-free, inclusive, and accessible space while building strong community ties and fostering a collective mindset of creative reuse.
OUR GUIDING PRINCIPLES
Inclusion: GUILD actively works to be an anti-racist, anti-oppression organization. We believe that our differences make a community strong and resilient. We do not tolerate hate. We intend for GUILD to be a welcoming place for a broad spectrum of people, reflective of Kalamazoo.
Positive Environmental Impact: Keeping items out of the landfill is essential to GUILD’s function. We understand that items have a longer life than may be originally intended and use what we have to upcycle, reuse, and create.
Belonging: We value belonging in a world where third spaces are rare and most people find connection online. We value in-person gathering to know and be known by each other to foster a sense of belonging.
Radical Generosity: Through radical generosity, we are able to provide free and low-barrier access to supplies, education, skill sharing, workshops, and space. People donating their time and materials makes this possible. We hold this as a core tenant as we would not exist without the radical generosity of everyone who participates in GUILD.
