Expressive Arts Therapy Group
Join Intern Counselor Bree Bird in exploring how creativity and expression can be used to address mental health and well being. Free and open to the public ages 16+. Sign-up is required. Group size limited.
Creativity is a basic human need. Creative expression serves to support a regulated nervous system and connect us to ourselves and others. This group will explore mental health and well-being through expressive arts. Participants will be guided to connect to personal experience and find ways to express themselves through drawing, painting, sewing, building, collage, singing, dancing, writing, and other forms of creative expression that may arise. A mix of facilitated exercises and personal freedom of expression will be used. No prior experience with art, expressive arts or therapy is required. This is a therapy group, led by counselor-in-training, Bree Bird. A supervising licensed therapist will be on site. Group norms will be set, and expressive arts therapy process will be engaged.

Bree is an artist, mother, educator and third year grad student + intern counselor at Kalamazoo Therapy Group.

Join us for Silent Book Club at Fiddle Leaf Cafe from 5-6:30, followed by a free book craft at GUILD!

What to bring? Something to read and if possible, an old book to use for your book craft! *We’ll have a few books available for crafting in case you forget yours (first-come, first-served).
Will there be food & beverages? Yes, Fiddle Leaf Cafe will have three specialty drinks and light snacks available for purchase.
What’s the reading to crafting plan? When we finish the silent reading hour, we will move over to the GUILD space for a guided craft (totally optional)! Not interested in the book craft? Feel free to bring your own craft, explore the space, or just keep reading!

We will be providing supplies for collaborative banner painting for the nationwide Red Heart Banner Project. Paint a banner then hang your heart at home for all of Kalamazoo to see.

Interested in costume making? Guild is hosting a once a month costume/cosplay meetup where you can bring your costume works-in-progress or just stop by to meet people and share ideas. Guild holds a wide variety of materials and equipment for you to use. And it’s free! No sign up necessary, just stop by! Ages 16+

DONATION DRIVE
Want to donate your unwanted arts and crafts supplies and tools to GUILD? Amazing!
We are able to keep GUILD uniquely stocked each week thanks to supply donations from the community. Moving forward, we will have donation days ONCE A MONTH. This will help us keep the studio organized and as clutter-free as possible while patrons are in the space. Take a look at our list on our website to see what we need!

For our ALL AGES Earth Day event, we’ll be making seed bombs and seed paper! Come craft with us and take your seed projects home to plant!

Weave & Grieve
Hosted by Michael Marie, a funerary artisan based in Dexter, MI. Collectively craft with others while processing grief and exploring challenging emotions and concepts. Bring a craft along from home or just come as you are and you can borrow one of Michael’s baskets to weave. We’ll have an informal setup where we craft in community with one another, letting the conversation shape and flow naturally based on group needs. All forms of grief are welcome. Please plan to arrive on time and stay as long as possible. Ages 16+.

Fiber Arts Club meets every month on the second Monday from 6-8pm. Fiddle Leaf Cafe will be open next door also! Bring your knitting, crochet, quilting, sewing, embroidery or other fiber project to work alongside others in the Guild community! This is free to anyone with a passion for fiber arts. Sewing machines are welcome and some are available in the space if needed. Ages 16+.
MEET UP: COLLAGE CREW KZOo
Collage Crew Kzoo is hosting a Meet Up at Guild every second Saturday of the month! Join us & make some collage art!
Enjoy cutting, ripping, gluing & making friends at our drop-in collage art event! All supplies will be provided. Ages 16+.
